Details About the Event

Southend primary school children will be treated to an energy-filled, fun-packed vocal day directed by "the Jamie Oliver of Singing", Dominic Peckham, one of the UK’s finest young conductors. ‘Friday Afternoons’, an event, at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre, Eastern Avenue, on November 22, promises an amazing opportunity for local schoolchildren to engage with singing at an exciting and inspirational level. They will learn all about 20th century composer, Benjamin Britten and then spice things up with a modern twist. Pupils will be wowing parents with a mix of crazy warm-ups, Mash-Ups, Jay-Z, and Lady Gaga to the unique sounds of Benjamin Britten and specially arranged collections of his celebrated songs for young voices. Councillor Derek Jarvis, Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism said: “The event, in association with Aldeburgh Music and The Friday Afternoon's Britten Centenary Project, is a fantastic chance for young people to learn, listen and develop their voices no matter what level or experience.” The Friday Afternoons Project is a national undertaking by Aldeburgh Music, celebrating Britten’s centenary. All participating children will gain accreditation towards an Arts Award.
