Details About the Event

A year 4 class learnt the song, "From a Railway Carriage," as part of their singing lessons this half term. They were very enthusiastic about the text and many children brought in other poems by Robert Lewis Stevenson as extra homework. They prepared the song and had a go at improvising different arrangements of one of the verses in small groups. They sang and recorded the original version of the song as well as a whole class arrangement of one of the verses. A year 6 class learnt "Winter Time". After much giggling about some of the language they really got inside the text and Nico's interpretation of it. By the day of the final performance, they managed to sing "the cold wind burns my face and blows its frosty pepper up my nose," with almost vitriolic attack! The class also worked in small ensemble groups to improvise, refine and perform one verse of the song each. A coherent whole was reached despite arrangements of the different verses ranging from soaring vocal solos to body percussion, beat boxing and rapping! The performance was videoed for year 4 to enjoy and see the standard they could achieve in 2 years time.
